Crepe Paper Roses

Today I received an email from Pepper Design Blog. What a lovely image to see upon opening it! These roses are made from cleverly rolled crepe paper. Gorgeous! Made by Danielle Flanders, you'll find the tutorial on Danielle's blog, Homespun With Heart. Enjoy twisting up some beautiful roses that will never wilt!

Picnic Boxes

I love a good picnic basket, but as an apartment dweller I don't have the room to store the big basket of my dreams. For space-concious consumers like me there's Boxsal, eco-friendly picnic boxes you can lunch with any time, or use as storage or recycle them. Each Boxsal comes with fully compostable utensils, plates, cups and napkins. Delightful!

Friday Giveaway Winner: It's in the Bag

Congratulations to CT Cupcake, winner of a set of 12 colorful gift bags. Thanks for leaving a comment in last week's Friday Giveaway. Congrats, and happy giving!

**CT Cupcake—to claim your prize, please email me at hostess@host-itnotes.com. I don't have contact info for you.**

At Least Someone Did It!

I had such big plans for when Futurama came back on the air. For those who don't watch the show, Futurama is a great Simpsons-esque adult cartoon set in the future, circa the year 3,000. It's popular with the geeks (read, my computer engineer husband), and is back on tv after a long cancellation.

For those who watch the show, you'll have to imagine my elaborate plans to create a Muddy-Buddy-like Bachelor Chow, serve up a limeade (and call it Slurm, naturally), and bake up some Futurama-themed cupcakes.

Unfortunately, I was out of town when the show debuted, and never got around to making my Futurama fiesta a reality. Instead I'll just admire this edible tribute to the show's best character, the cigar-smoking, booze-swilling robot with an attitude, Bender. Jackie from I Design, crafted this cake—my hat's off to you, Jackie!

Parties That Pull Double Duty

Boy and girl parties are often a tough combination. This party is, by far, the best combination of themes I've seen! Spotted on Kara's Party Ideas, this party by Glorious Treats is a combination of Racecars and Rainbows for a pair of boy and girl siblings.

Terrific, no? More pics and details here.

Fluffernutter Cupcakes

Feast your eyes on these Fluffernutter Cupcakes. They look light, fluffy (or are they fluffery?), and unbelievably delicious. For this perfectly peanut-buttery treat, The Novice Chef has the recipe and more pics (spotted via Cupcakes that Take the Cake). What's that you say? There's Nutella in the middle? That's it, I'm sold.

Tie Me Up In Love

There are some fabulous colors and ideas in this stunning bridal shower created by City Cradle Design and featured on Style Me Pretty. I find the "Knotted in Love" theme refreshingly unusual, and the results are spectacular.

WIth spools, knots, and skeins of brightly-colored yarn in all of the details, this wins a Host-It Notes "two champagne flutes up!" For more images and details click here.

Easy Dessert for Entertaining

Here's an easy, pretty dessert tutorial from Twig and Thistle. Chocolate Dipped Rice Crispy "Popsicles" are a treat even the most novice cook can make. Is it just me, or does the finishing touch of the ribbon really make this? Take it a step further and add sprinkles, coconut flakes, chopped nuts, or crumbled bits of candy bar or Oreos at the end.

Sugar-Stamped Table Setting

Here's a cute, simple idea that anyone can try at their next party. The Paper Source—a must-shop store for me when I'm planning a party—posted a tutorial on its blog. Food coloring, powdered sugar, and a new rubber stamp turn a plain glass plate into a custom design.

Homemade Snoball Snacks

For your adoration:

Heather Baird of SprinkleBakes cooked up something amazing recently—Pink Snoball Cakelettes. They are reminiscent of tiny Hostess Snoball snack cakes, but without the sketchy sponge texture. SprinkleBakes has the recipe and great pics here. What other snack cake inspired treats have you found?

Friday Giveaway Winner: Summer Sipping

Congratulations to Victoria Wood, winner of this week's Host-It Notes Friday Giveaway. Victoria won a Summer Cocktails Deck, with 50 drink recipes to quench her thirst at all her summer soirees. Thanks for reading, Victoria!

Bragging Rights: Show Off Your Collection

Some people collect baseball cards or antiques. I collect cake stands. Old ones, new ones, colored or clear, I love finding a unique cake stand that suits my style. I once had a proper collection of about 15—believe me, that's the limit you can store in a shoebox apartment in Manhattan—but a move to San Francisco resulted in a Fed Ex cake stand slaughter that wiped me out of all but a few.

As I grieved the loss of my carefully curated collection, my addiction only got worse, blossoming into a love for all serveware and table toppers. Now I'm picking up silver trays, aqua Ball jar vases, candelabra and more. But how often do you find a reason to break out a silver chafing dish or tea set? I hated to see my pretty pieces put away, which is why I invested the money and space to put my passion on display.

I purchased this bookcase from Ikea and finally found a home for my favorite things. No more boxed up vases or cupboards crowded with cake stands. I get to enjoy them every day. The bookshelf has become Host-It Notes headquarters, housing my favorite books on entertaining and cooking, giveaway prizes, and my camera gear.

What about you? How do you display your collections?

Bake-Sale Beauties

I love it when readers share their cooking and crafts. Jess won a copy of What's New, Cupcake in a Host-It Notes Friday Giveaway, and she's clearly been putting it to good use. She made these Bake-Sale Pies, cupcakes topped with red and blue M&Ms to look like berry pies. Unsweetened cocoa powder and yellow food coloring turns vanilla frosting into "crust". Adorable—and, according to Jess, easy as pie!

Friday Giveaway: Seeing Stars

Congratulations to Host-It Notes follower, Jennifer Causby. You've won last week's Friday giveaway for a star-shaped ice mold. While the cupcake craze is still going strong, put your prettiest creations up on a pedestal. I dig these cute little stands by Hello Hanna. They're the perfect size for one wee cake, and made from embossed recycled paper.
