Vintage Reproduction Coffee Can Project

In a recent post I talked about my shopping spree at the soon-to-close Razzle Dazzle. Though it feels like I bought out the store, I wasn't able to splurge on some of their best stuff—an awesome selection of vintage packaging. They had vintage ice cream containers, candy boxes, and other terrific food packages. Luckily, this tutorial by Mitzi's Collectibles offers an affordable way for me to satisfy my craving. Head to Mitzi's Collectibles to snag and print her terrific old coffee can labels. Adhere them to flea market canisters and vases and enjoy them for storage and display! Viola! Super affordable "vintage" food packaging of your own.

Farewell and a Farmers Market

Baked Goods by Jinou Edible Art

My final hours in Los Angeles were spent strolling through the farmers market in Studio City. Vendors there hawk your typical produce and seafood fare plus a few surprises like designer snow cones and $4 cupcakes I hear are worth the price. One tasty find was the baked goodness offered up by Jinou Edible Art. We bought two wheat free cakelets and a chocolate souffle fresh fruit tart.

Posing with my purchases and Michael

The real joy of the morning was meeting Michael Wells of Cattle Headquarters. He was a treat to talk to and sells teriffic dishtowels, napkins, tablecloths and aprons at a great price. I picked up retro farm advertising styled dishtowels and am kicking myself for not bringing home his California printed apron. You'll enjoy his flour and feed sack inspired designs. Anything from Cattle Headquarters would make a terrific hostess gift alone or paired with a bottle of wine. I plan to make my LA friend shop for me by proxy for Christmas gifts before I visit her again.

So much to see in Los Angeles and the surrounding area! If you have tips on a great place to check out, leave a comment and I'll schedule it into my next trip!

Farewell to the Ol' Razzle and Dazzle

If you saw my post on the cake stand mecca, Bountiful, then you know I'm in LA this week. Yesterday's SoCal adventures included brunch with a pal where we both wore vintage hats (fun!) and a trip to a tucked-away shop we spotted in Studio City called Razzle Dazzle. Seeing as I just discovered this gem of a store, I'm completely crushed to hear that it's closing.

Razzle Dazzle is a sweet little boutique full of sparkly pretties, cake stands, vintage goods and packaging, jewelry, ceramics and more. I'm very sad to hear of it's impending close, but I was happy to offer a good home to a number of fabulous purchases—including two new cake stands! The glass beauties pictured here were a steal at under $15 each and I can't wait to put them to good use. Other unique finds included handkerchiefs printed with reproductions of vintage children's book illustrations, a recipe book holder (to be photographed another day), and felt cake ornaments. If you're in the area head to Razzle Dazzle in Studio City and enjoy this lovely store before it's gone!

"Nice" Lookin' Banner

Spotted via Style Me Pretty, these party banners by Nice are girly and gaudy and I kinda love 'em. Is this "Forever" banner not fringe-tastic? And the one below? I {heart} you, too. Now, we just need to get Caitlin of Nice to make some that are a little less pretty (read: wedding) and a little more party! Visit Nice to check out these, plus some cutie vintage goods.

Cake Stand Heaven at Bountiful

I'm away on a fun little vacation in LA this week, and while strolling through the neighborhood near Venice Beach I stumbled across my idea of heaven in retail form. It's a fabulous store called Bountiful, and has the best store displays I've ever seen—mainly because they use stacks and stacks of drop dead gorgeous cake stands.

All of their cake stands are either genuine vintage and antique or made using original materials and molds by classic manufacturers. The whole store is jaw-droppingly pretty and full of more than just cake stands. They have vintage glassware, signs, decor, furniture, chandeliers, fabrics, and bric-a-brac. It's an absolute must if you're in the area. Just be sure to budget in a big chunk of change to spend! The good stuff doesn't come cheap.

I don't know if it's the crown or the colors, but it's making me want to plan a summer high tea party.

A New Use for Teacups

You're gonna love this! I spotted this DIY teacup craft over at Intimate Weddings. It's a very simple tutorial on how turn thrift store or vintage teacups into fabulous little bird feeders. How great would this be for a garden party, tea party, Alice in Wonderland party—or anything girly, really?! I say go beyond feeders too. Put miniature flower arrangements in them, candles, or even candy at a tea party for children. Visit Intimate weddings for the tutorial.

Printed Parchment Paper

I use parchment paper for almost everything. Under pizza, cookies, and roasted vegetables, at the bottom of brownie pans or as a package for steaming fish, sometimes even in lieu of a plate under my sandwich. Why it never occurred to me you could print on parchment paper I cannot say. Fortunately, the folks at Project Wedding realized it, and went one step further, making cute food labels you can print directly on parchment paper! Click here for the tutorial over at Project Wedding. It's the perfect craft for home-baked favors and dessert bars. {Spotted via Party Frosting}

Mini Mail

Have you seen The World's Smallest Post Service? I've been lucky enough to come across Lea Redmond and her pint-sized mailing station at local craft fairs more than once, each time thrilling at her miniature missives. Lea handwrites messages so tiny you'll want a magnifying glass to see it properly. They come complete with teensy stamps, stickers and a wee little envelope. Now anyone can create and send their own Lilliputian letters with The World's Smallest Post Service kit, which includes all the materials you'll need along with instructions for sending your letters through the real postal service. Lea proves once more that good things come in small packages!

Brats, Beers and Baseball!

My husband is a hard-core baseball fan from Wisconsin. So when his home team, the Brewers, went up against my favorite team, the Mets, I thought I'd make him a special dinner to show my support...and, you know, cushion the blow if my team won.

I cooked us up a pair of tasty bratwursts, each served on a french roll with peppers and onions. Brats are practically the state food of Wisconsin.

As the song goes, I just had to buy him some peanuts and Cracker Jack. I also tucked two 24oz cans of Miller High Life in the back—because what's baseball without the beer? He drank his in a glass from one of his favorite WI pubs. I prefer mine from the can, because I'm classy like that.

I packed it all up in my bright red Milwaukee tool box—storage for a good ol' Milwaukee Sawzall.

The Mets did me proud, winning 2 to 1. Go Mets! Maybe next game I'll serve up a Nathan's hotdog with my guilty pleasure, Sabrett onion sauce, in their honor.
