Psychic Sweets

Whether these are a gimmick, or truly mystical munchies, I'm secretly dying to try Psychic Fortunes at my next girls night. Psychic Kimberly Berg reads energy fields (aka your personal "vibe") to see what's on your mind, in your life, and invisibly affecting you. Able to read you from just your name, Kimberly has translated her insight into crunchy cookie favors that come with personalized psychic fortunes you can order for each of your guests. Each cookie reading is $10.

If anyone ends up trying this, let me know how it goes by emailing me at I'd love to know if they are spot on! I'll update my post if I ever dabble in the psychic side of my dessert.

Hand Printed Fabric

This post over at does what I would have thought impossible—it makes hand printing your own fabric look easy! Or doable at the very least. Textile designer Karen BarbĂ© shows you how she makes a custom stamp using tiny squares of hard foam and uses it to hand print a length of muslin. I love the cross-stitch look it gives the fabric. Check it out!

Real Party Inspiration: Jungle Baby Shower

Today's post comes from Host-It Notes reader Laura C. She recently attended an adorable DIY baby shower for her sister-in-law, Jen. Jen's mom, Lori, and sister, Monica, planned a beautiful jungle-themed shower welcoming baby boy, Tyson. Each table had a centerpiece of a different animal perched on diapers and surrounded by tasty treats.

Animal details were everywhere: Mom-to-be Jen had an awesome dress, a giant stuffed giraffe held the raffle ticket entry box, and there were colorful cupcakes with different animal rings on them.

Even the guests got into the theme with their wrapping and gift ideas—one guest actually made a "Lil' snuggler"-type gift that swaddled a little plush giraffe.

Thanks for sharing such a lovely and creative party with us, Laura!

Sugar Cookie Bowls

Chris over at Celebrations At Home spotted this terrific idea on the Wilton website. They used a specialty pan to create sugar cookie bowls for serving up ice cream, berries, puddings and more. Instead of pressing the dough into the inside of the pan, you drape it over the outside of the molds after spraying them. I say give this a try with any specialty pans you already have and see what the result is! Also, does anyone else think dipping the bottoms of the bowls in some melted chocolate might just take this to the next level? Mmm...and sprinkles? I need to get started on this! Wilton also has a recipe for this project here.

Spoonflower—that great site for making your own fabric designs—recently ran a round-up of their favorite plushie pattern fabrics. These cute fabrics have shapes and instructions for instant plush toys. Just cut, sew, and stuff! I love the winner of their weekly contest—the breakfast themed toy pattern by Bora (above). Don't you want to make a plushie milk carton and toast? So cute. For other great patterns, like an owl, little red riding hood and a super piggy, check out their post here.

Head to How About Orange to see how they used light-sensitive dye and safety pins to make this oh-so-cute fabric pouch.

If you haven't seen this gorgeous Secret Garden Baby Shower by Tradewind Tiaras, believe me, you should!! At first I wasn't sure what I loved more, the cupcake swing (cute!!) or the amazing white paper flower backdrop. The backdrop pulled into the lead when Nicole at Tradewind Tiaras posted a 3-part tutorial on how to make your own. I love it when creative and crafty people don't mind sharing the secrets of their success. And this party looks like it was an enormous (and gorgeous) success for sure!

Crafty Crayon Projects

Back-to-school stuff is flying around the interweebs these days. Having no kids, I haven't really joined in on the fun. I can't help but stop and stare, though, at two amazing crayon-themed projects I've loved this week.

Up top, a fun, melty project from the blog Whatever... {via Apartment Therapy}. Take crayons, add blow dryer, and things get pretty! Tutorial here.

Our Best Bites has an awesome tutorial on making realistic-looking candy "crayons." Check it out after the link.

A Deal Site For The Handmade Hunter

As a frequent browser and sometimes buyer of flash sale and deal sites like ideeli and Groupon, I was thrilled to find a similar site that's closer to my heart. I love buying handmade. It supports individual artists and creatives and makes for such unique gift giving. A deal site called Heartsy launched earlier this year, giving small-scale vendors and artisans a chance to give out big one-time offers on their handmade and vintage shops. It's like a Groupon for Etsy. The part I really like? I get to have a say in what deals get offered! Heartsy has a "Pick Deals" tab, which lets you click through a gallery of shops and select how strongly you feel about buying their products. If enough folks show interest, they'll offer a deal from that vendor. Happy shopping!
